Leapmotor B03X Australia Price: The Fine Print Behind the $29,990 Drive-Away Deal

A new electric SUV for $29,990 drive-away is a big number to see on a showroom banner, so read the conditions before you get excited. They're real, but smaller than you'd expect, and they come down to colour, timing and how the car drives. Here's what the price actually covers, what you give up, and who this little SUV suits.
Key Facts: Leapmotor B03X Australia

What the price actually covers
Drive-away means the sticker includes 12 months' registration, CTP insurance (compulsory third party), stamp duty and dealer delivery. That's the number you pay, bar options. So there are no on-road costs to add. The conditions sit elsewhere.
The offer is tied to Acorn Brown, the standard colour, and to a delivery window ending on 31 December.
Pick another colour and you pay extra. A trade report also gives a Style list price of $26,990 before on-road costs, but Leapmotor's page shows no list price, so use the drive-away figure.

What reviewers found on the road
An international first drive found the car adequate for city driving but not much fun.
The steering is light and slow around the centre, the rear end can feel loose in tight corners, and body roll shows up in faster bends. The driver-assist alerts are frequent and can only be switched off through the touchscreen. Most controls also sit on that screen. Leapmotor says a software update will improve the steering.
None of that matters much if the car is for short trips and school runs. It matters if you drive a lot of country roads.
What's missing
We found no independent safety rating for the B03X.
Leapmotor's page lists 7 airbags and a suite of driver-assist functions, but nothing from ANCAP or Euro NCAP. Check ancap.com.au before you buy. Warranty terms also weren't listed on the page we read, so ask your dealer.

Buy If / Avoid If
Buy if you want one of the lowest-priced new electric SUVs for suburban commuting, you can live with Acorn Brown, and you can take delivery before 31 December.
Buy the Design Long Range if you want 382km claimed range for school runs and the occasional weekend trip.
Avoid if you want a car that's sharp to drive, you do a lot of highway kilometres, or you won't buy without an independent crash rating.
Avoid if you need a specific colour. The headline price won't apply.
